Having read this review, it reminded me of another voice with which I struggled to get to grips. "Narrow Dog to Carcassonne" by Terry Darlington. Really did not like his style the first time I picked up the book, but returned to it a few months later & it clicked, and I ended up enjoying the book immensely.
Being a pony girl in my youth, "Our Horses in Egypt" is now on my wish list.
